Nassau County Democrats organized a rally opposing Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s candidacy for New York State Governor, and the visit by Donald Trump to bolster him. The rally took place from 10 a.m and dispersed before noon.
A second rally outside the NCPD for Training & Intelligence organized by local community organizers, immigrant rights advocates and faith leaders was supposed to be held at 2 pm at that designated “free speech” zone, including New York Communities for Change, New York Immigration Coalition, and National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
But when we attempted to get to the 2 pm rally, access to the “free speech zone” was blocked by Nassau County Police who had put a miles-wide perimeter of closed streets and roadways around the area.
Trump was scheduled to tour county law enforcement facilities, including the Nassau County Police Academy Center for Training and Intelligence on Law Enforcement Way and the Bolla Training Village, in Garden City, Friday, in keeping with Blakeman’s law-and-order visage.
Some tickets were supposed to be available to the public for the president’s remarks by registering online via a White House link but were hard to come by.
Requests for media credentials were also denied.
